What happens if I need to cancel my holiday?

Firstly, we strongly advise that you check you have an adequate travel insurance / holiday cancellation policy to cover against the need to cancel your holiday. There are lots of competitively priced policies available and we can supply further information upon request at the time of booking if you need to take up a policy. Deposit payments are non refundable. If you have no alternative but to cancel your holiday, we require written notification, either by post or email, of your request to cancel. As long as this written confirmation is received more than 12 weeks prior to the holiday date, you will not be required to pay the final rental balance. If written request to cancel is received within 12 weeks of the holiday date we require payment of the full balance.

When is the final rental balance required?

The final rental balance is due 12 weeks prior to your holiday and once we are in receipt of this payment we will send all key collection details, full directions etc to you.

What deposit is required?

We require a 30% non refundable deposit payment to secure your booking.

What payment methods do you take?

Although we accept both credit and debit cards, due to the high credit card charges that we incur, we prefer payments by bank transfer or debit card. If you are able to make payment using a bank transfer, here are our bank details:

Where are the nearest grocery shops?

We suggest that you call into the Booths Supermarket in Ulverston on your way to us, as they stock absolutely everything and also have a good cafe, making it an ideal point to stop and take a break before continuing the last part of your journey. Locally, there is a small post office/shop in Boot village, just opposite us, and in the next village, Eskdale Green, there is a larger shop which has a great deli section and offers a delivery service. Details of opening times, contact telephone numbers and all other supermarkets in the area are to be found in the housebook in your cottage.

Where is the nearest hospital?

The nearest hospital is the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven (Tel: 01946 693181). Directions to the hospital: Motorway access from the North and South is via the M6 exiting at junction 40 onto the A66, signposted Keswick, then heading West for 35 miles. After bypassing Cockermouth turn left onto the A595 and travel 12 miles to Whitehaven. Keep on the A595 ignoring the signage for the town centre, travel 2 miles passing through traffic lights and turn left at the roundabout. The main entrance of the hospital is on the right 100 yards from the roundabout.

Where is the nearest train station?

To reach us by train, Lancaster is the nearest main line station. From Lancaster you will need to take a coastal train to Ravenglass and then either take the 40 minute journey on the tourist narrow gauge steam train from Ravenglass to Dalegarth Station at Boot, or arrange for a taxi from Ravenglass to us.

Wastwater is our nearest lake and is England’s deepest. It was voted ‘Britain’s Favourite View’ on the ITV programme hosted by Sir Trevor MacDonald.

How do I get to Bridge End Farm Cottages?

We will send you full directions in plenty of time prior to your holiday and advise you use these over any satellite navigation systems, which will often try to direct you via a more difficult route over the fells.

We would like to stay for our honeymoon – which cottage would you recommend?

We can supply a cot, high chair and stairgate free of charge. Please request these when you book. We do ask that you bring your own cot linen.

Can I bring my pet?

Yes, you can bring a well behaved dog, or two, to our pet friendly cottages. See below for how many dogs each cottage can accommodate.

All dogs must be booked in and sorry we do not take dogs under one year old as we had a bad incident with a puppy chewing one of our nice Italian leather sofas. All dogs should be well behaved and all owners need to follow our easy to follow rules eg not allowed on beds, not left alone in the cottage, not off a lead in our gardens, taken for walks off site but still on a lead on footpaths as this is farming country and please read and abide by the full list of dog rules below. We will probably have other guests without dogs staying in our other cottages here to enjoy the peace, beauty and tranquility of our special corner of the Lake District, so if your dog is going to be stressed in unfamiliar surroundings and/or prone to barking lots we suggest you book elsewhere.

We can take up to 2 large or 3 small dogs in our Farmhouse. Two dogs in Wastwater Cottage. Two dogs but only if sleeping in crates in Scafell Cottage. One large dog or two small dogs in Hardknott, Wrynose and Stanley Ghyll Cottage and just one small dog in Whillan Beck Cottage as it’s our smallest cottage.

Dog fees are payable in advance and are:

£50 per week. £100 for 2 weeks.
£40 for breaks of 4, 5 or 6 nights.
£30 for short breaks of 1, 2 or 3 nights

We put in a dog treat, throw(s) for our leather sofas, dog towel(s) for dirty paws and we do an extra special deep clean afterwards.

Are linen and towels included?

Yes, our prices include all linen, hand and bath towels, and tea towels in the kitchen.

Are there pubs and restaurants nearby?

Yes, we have two welcoming Inns in Boot village. The first is just 50 yards away and second only a 150 yard stroll along the lane. Both serve good home cooked food and real ales, and are child friendly. There is a total of five pubs in the valley, and a full list of local Inns and restaurants with contact telephone numbers can be found in the housebook in each cottage.
