Location

If you are looking for quality holiday homes near Scafell Pike, for your hiking trip, or to just explore and enjoy the area, the cottages at Bridge End Farm are probably some of the closest you will find.

Our cottages are near, only being a hike, or short drive, from Scafell Pike, and it's twin Scafell. 'The Pikes of Sca Fell' sit in the distance, as if staged in a glorious masterpiece oil painting of old.

The accommodation is located in the quaint and picturesque hamlet of Boot, Eskdale, in a valley and flanked by fells and hills, with the Whillan Beck stream running along the bottom of our spacious garden. Click here to view Bridge End Farm from above. From this view, you can see the Whillan Beck at the bottom of the garden, the size of the various cottages, including the main farmhouse, which has its own garden, the free parking, and the location in Boot. Zooming out reveals the location within the Lake District, the proximity to Scafell Pike and the tranquil and relaxed holiday which lies ahead!

The walk to Scafell Pike from the cottages

It is about a 13 mile walk from the accommodation to Scafell Pike and back. If you are brave enough to take on the entire walk from the cottages in Boot, and do a round trip, then kudos to you. Getting yourself up and out of our comfortable beds, at such a quiet and relaxing location, early in the morning, is the first task. Get the coffee on and prepare a hearty breakfast in one of our newly refurbished, luxury kitchens.

From whichever holiday cottage you stay in, walk to the entrance of the farm and then take a left, heading north along the road, past the Eskdale Mill and the delightful Whillan Beck. After a few minutes you will reach the well trodden path which leads to Scafell Pike. Say goodbye to the comfort of the cottages for a good few hours or so. And hello to adventure and exploration!

On your journey, you will pass through glorious Lake District countryside. One of the highlights is Wastwater Lake, about 4 or 5 miles into the walk. It is one of England's deepest lakes. A good chance to stop, have a breather and take in some refreshments and appreciate the stunning scenery. If it is the summer, consider a dip in the lake. Very refreshing! Scafell Pike looms larger in the background, but still a way off.

A short period after Wastwater, you will start the climb, where the walk slowly but surely becomes steeper and more arduous. The tonic to this is the sheer scale and beauty of the surroundings. Sometimes difficult to take in all at once. Once you reach the top, you do your best to achieve this, plus grab some air and a drink. Now to do it all again on the walk back to Boot.

Back at the cottages in Boot

Once you get back to Boot, before you go back to the cottages, pop into the The Boot Inn for a refreshing drink. It's near, being only a two minute amble down the road. They have a fine selection of local ales, so take a seat and relax for a few hours, reminiscing on a day well spent hiking Scafell Pike. When you get back to the cottages, everything is provided for to make sure you can unwind and relax after a hard, but invigorating days hiking.
